A sealant is designed to fill joints and gaps to prevent water, air, dust, and moisture from passing through while remaining flexible. An adhesive is designed to bond two surfaces together. Some Silock Hybrid products combine both sealing and bonding functions.

Silock products are suitable for a wide range of materials, including glass, aluminium, concrete, ceramic, PVC, wood, metal, brick, and many other building materials. Always check the product specifications or test on a small area before use.

Yes. For the best adhesion, surfaces should be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, oil, loose paint, old sealant, or other contaminants.

It is recommended to completely remove the old sealant before applying a new one. This ensures better adhesion and longer-lasting performance.

Yes. Silicone sealants provide excellent waterproof protection, making them ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, windows, and outdoor applications.

Yes. Silicone and Hybrid sealants are formulated to resist UV rays, rain, humidity, and temperature changes, making them suitable for exterior use.

No. Standard silicone sealants are not paintable. If the joint needs to be painted, use a Silock Acrylic or Paintable Hybrid Sealant instead.

Acetoxy Silicone cures faster and is ideal for glass and ceramic applications but releases a vinegar-like smell during curing.

Neutral Cure Silicone has low odour, is non-corrosive, and is recommended for metals, mirrors, aluminium, and natural stone.

Most Silock sealants form a surface skin within 10–30 minutes and fully cure within 24–72 hours, depending on the product, temperature, humidity, and joint size.

Common reasons include using an expired product, applying in unsuitable weather conditions, excessive joint depth, poor storage, or incorrect product selection.

This is usually caused by poor surface preparation, moisture, oil contamination, excessive joint movement, or choosing the wrong sealant for the application.

Cracking may occur if the sealant bead is too thin, the joint moves beyond the sealant’s capability, or an unsuitable product was selected.

Many Silock Construction Adhesives provide high-strength bonding that can reduce or eliminate the need for mechanical fasteners in suitable applications.

Cured sealant should be removed mechanically using a scraper or sealant removal tool. Silicone remover products may also help soften any remaining residue.

Store cartridges in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally between 5°C and 25°C.

Yes. Always check the shelf life or expiry date on the packaging. Using expired sealant may affect curing and performance.
